Black Mermaid

This is going to be incoherent because it is laced with the pain of a 6 year old being told she was too fat for ballet. When I was younger, I wanted to be a ballerina so badly. There were so few women who looked like me on stage, standing on point, being lauded for their commitment to pushing their bodies’ limits.Misty Copeland is soon important to so many black girls worrying about how they’ll fit into their leotards, and if they’ll be accepted in the Dullards of the world. Thank you so much Glamour for honouring her with your Woman of the Year award
