The situation in Syria with Assad is so dire. The world’s powers can’t ignore Assad’s tyranny. In the fight against ISIS, the evils committed by, and in the name of, a ruthless dictator cannot go unchecked.
Russia and Iran backing Assad creates a toxic environment which is conducive to ISIS. A survey of Syrian refugees in Germany found that 70% of them were running from Assad, and not ISIS. Assad is the most prolific creator of refugees in his country. How many children need to die escaping a ruthless tyrant for his regime to be recognised world over for what it is? There doesn’t exist a dichotomy between fighting Assad and ISIS for they reinforce each other.
